Expedition to the Arctic Sea

This 3-day safari is the longest we offer: 570 kilometers from Saariselkä to the Arctic Sea and back. Speeding till 100 km/h is no exception, especially at the Lake Inari. The first day is the most intensive. The 240 kilometer ride will last at least 8 hours. Overnight is in Neiden in Norway. The accommodation is really simple: the cabins have no toilet or shower. The guests should use the facilities of the saunas. The second day starts with a ride to the Arctic Sea. A Norwegian guide will take over from the start. It’s possible to swim in the freezing water (-1,5°C) of the Arctic Sea. Due to the high concentration of salt, these waters freeze only from -2,7°C. Of course this is only possible wearing special rescue suits. This have to be reserved in advance at 100 euro per person. The day end at the charming Wilderness Hotel Lapinleuku. The owner prepares a delicious meal and serves a drink in the nightclub. Fabulous! The last day you drive back to Saariselkä. On the way you will stop for some ice-fishing and a stop at a reindeer farm.
All participants should be physically fit because the driving distance and high speed at certain moments. It makes the program not suitable for everyone.

Day 1: transfer, dinner and overnight at Lapland Hotel Riekonlinna.

Day 2: breakfast, meeting with the guides at the lobby of the hotel. Driving and security instructions before departure to Neiden (Norway). Lunch in Nellim. Dinner and overnight at the Fjellstue Lodge (240 km).

Day 3: breakfast and early departure to the Arctic Sea. The rescue suits can only be ordered for the whole group. Lunch at the Arctic Sea. Dinner and overnight at Lapinleuku (190 km).

Day 4: breakfast and return to Saariselkä with a stop for ice-fishing and a short ride with a reindeer sledge at the reindeer farm. Dinner and overnight at hotel Riekonlinna (140 km).

Day 5: breakfast, check-out and transfer to Ivalo airport.

This tour can be extended. Price per person per night in a double room in hotel Riekonlinna in bed and breakfast:

* 01/12/2010-26/02/2011: 69 euro (not valid during Christmas & New Year)

* 27/02/2011-25/04/2011: 87 euro

* Supplement single: 60 euro per night (66 euro from 27/02/2011)

* Supplement half board: 28 euro per night (33 euro till 01/02/2011)
